Mary Haras, PhD, MBA, APN, NP-C, CNN
Mary S. Haras, PhD, MBA, APN, NP-C, CNN worked for 12 years in the outpatient CKD clinic as a nurse clinician and nurse practitioner providing ESRD options discussions with patients and family. Her Capstone project in MSN program explored role of APN in end-of-life care for persons with ESRD and her PhD dissertation focused on exploration of the role of nephrology nurses with advance care planning for persons with CKD and development of a psychometrically sound instrument to measure nephrology nurse perceptions toward advance care planning. Dr. Haras’ continued research focuses on qualitative aspect of nephrology nurse experiences with death of a patient. She is an active member of ANNA since 1996, including member of the CKD SIG, Ethics and Research committees and was recognized by ANNA in 2009 for Nephrology Nursing Journal Education Writing Award for Planning for a Good Death article, receiving 1.5 CEs for nurses. Dr. Haras was also recognized in 2014 by ANNA for Research Sharing Award for dissemination of dissertation research, and will receive the 2015 by the Nephrology Nursing Journal Research Writing Award. Dr. Haras currently is Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Nursing Programs at Saint Xavier University in Chicago.
